And They Said….

scary-clown

That we are living in a world filled with clowns, are we? Yes we are….look around nah can’t look around, look into your screens.. television, cellphones and all you see is a plethora of clowns performing their act for God knows what maybe survival or a catharsis of sorts!!

And then you have the “Joker” or respectably the “Jokerman” mind it he is not one among the clowns, this one’s a piece to reckon with cause he not only laughs at you but sometimes makes you believe that he is also a clown – the one who laughs at himself, a juxtaposition of mixed heads, dual personalities and a strong will to confuse the hell out of you!

And Bob sang his songs so true, so relevant even today….

Jokerman

By Bob Dylan:

“Standing on the waters casting your bread

While the eyes of the idol with the iron head are glowing

Distant ships sailing into the mist

You were born with a snake in both of your fists while a hurricane was blowing

Freedom just around the corner for you

But with the truth so far off, what good will it do?

Jokerman dance to the nightingale tune

Bird fly high by the light of the moon

Oh, oh, oh, Jokerman

So swiftly the sun sets in the sky

You rise up and say goodbye to no one

Fools rush in where angels fear to tread

Both of their futures, so full of dread, you don’t show one

Shedding off one more layer of skin

Keeping one step ahead of the persecutor within

Jokerman dance to the nightingale tune

Bird fly high by the light of the moon

Oh, oh, oh, Jokerman

You’re a man of the mountains, you can walk on the clouds

Manipulator of crowds, you’re a dream twister

You’re going to Sodom and Gomorrah

But what do you care? Ain’t nobody there would want to marry your sister

Friend to the martyr, a friend to the woman of shame

You look into the fiery furnace, see the rich man without any name

Jokerman dance to the nightingale tune

Bird fly high by the light of the moon

Oh, oh, oh, Jokerman…..”

And we then wonder..was Dylan thinking of the worldwide commitment of the humans towards their personal and cultural claim to religion? Or is it about the violence caught up in the everyday lives of the people? Maybe he’s talking about the lies surrounding the ambition and the drives of the human race that promises to rescue them from the clutches of poverty of the material and the immaterial kind…he could be talking of all these and much more, this Dylan I say sure knows how to think and what to write to confuse our already confused souls!! Whatever be the thought or the meaning behind “The Jokerman” – they sure do rule the order of the day metaphorically not understood but literally as true as the daylight…

And that we are living in a world filled with clowns, are we? Nah actually we are the clowns laughing at ourselves believing the “Jokerman” in all his glory and laughter that he throws towards us while pretending to be laughing at himself…oh, oh, oh, Jokerman….

That the Jokerman keeps dancing to the tunes of the nightingale while we continue to believe that the jokes on us but I not sometimes but often feel that I live inside a ? clown!!!

And They Said….
