Anuja Joshi shot to fame by portraying the lead character of Rivanah Banerjee a.k.a. Mini in the three seasons of the hit romantic thriller web series Hello Mini that was streamed on MX Player. The first season of the web series was aired on October 1, 2019 and the second and third seasons were launched on February 26, 2021 and April 22, 2021. On the completion of one year of first season of the web series, Joshi took to Instagram and expressed her gratitude towards her fans for making the show a turning point in her career. She wrote, “1 Year Ago Today “Hello Mini” released and truly changed my life. I’m so grateful. Love, Rivanah Banerjee.”
The 28-year-old Anuja Joshi started her career as an actress by starring in the 2014 Hindi film 100: The Tribute opposite her fiance Ankur Rathee. Besides, Hello Mini, Joshi also earned huge appreciation for her role of Debbie in the second season of producer Ekta Kapoor’s web series Broken But Beautiful that was streamed on ALTBalaji. Apart from making a mark in Hindi entertainment shows, the Indian American lady also made her Hollywood debut with the role of a surgical intern Dr. Leela Devi in the fourth season of the American medical drama television series The Resident that aired on Fox TV. While making the public announcement of her appearance as a cast in The Resident on her Instagram handle, Joshi wrote, “ It’s with extreme gratitude and humility that I announce my official Hollywood debut. I will be joining the cast of The Resident on Fox starting this Tuesday at 8pm EST! (Available on HotStar for my Indian friends). Meet Dr. Leela Devi! She’s about to shake things up at Chastain Memorial Hospital. Be sure to tune in. #theresident.” Meanwhile, the actress was also roped to play the character of Dr. Leela Devi in the fifth season of The Resident too which premiered on Fox TV on September 21, 2021. Joshi also appeared as Nisha in an episode of Fantasy Island, an American drama series which tells emotional, provocative stories about people who arrive with dreams and desires to the fictional Fantasy Island and depart from there in enlightened and transformed forms after going through its magical realism. The actress has also featured in numerous TV commercials like Vadilal Ice Cream, Wild Stone Perfume etc.
Anuja Joshi comes from a family of esteemed actors. The name of her father is Alankar Joshi who was one of the most popular child actors of the 1970s and 80s Bollywood films. Known as Master Alankar, he worked in a number of blockbuster hits of the time, such as Sholay (1978), Don (1978), Seeta Aur Geeta (1972), Dream Girl (1977) amongst many others. Anuja Joshi’s paternal aunt is the National Award winner Pallavi Joshi who has done a number of films and television shows in Hindi. Her paternal uncle is the well-known Bollywood filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri. Anuja Joshi also has a twin sister Aneesha Joshi who made her debut in Bollywood in 2016 with the film Junooniyat. She also has a younger brother named Aashay Joshi. Her mother Namita Joshi is a nutritionist. Born on August 19,1993 , Anuja Joshi grew up in United States as her father had migrated to the country after quitting his acting career. In an interview with News18, Joshi said that she got to play the leading role in Hello Mini through auditions, and not because of her family connections. “I was raised in the US, very far away from the industry in India. And I went to NYU for film school. My experience came from working in production for a long time. I was working on set, but not as an actress. I did that for several years on different TV shows in Hollywood,” she said.
Apart from making a sparkling name in as an actress in India and America, Anuja Joshi also had a successful academic and corporate career too. She is a graduate of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts which is the performing, cinematic and media arts school of the university. She did an internship with the American multinational mass media and entertainment conglomerate corporation NBCUniversal Media and also worked in the marketing and digital team of the same organization for various shows of its channel Syfy. She has also been trained in Hindustani classical music and the Indian classical dance form Kuchipudi.
Anuja Joshi got engaged to Indian American actor Ankur Rathee on July 19,2020 after being in a relationship for about six years. Rathee shot to fame after starring in the film Thappad and the web series Four More Shots Please and Made in Heaven. Although it has been more than a year since their engagement, the couple are unable to make wedding plans due to the situation of the coronavirus pandemic. In an interview with News18, Joshi revealed that she and her fiance are not planning to tie the knot soon but will try to host their wedding once the pandemic situation becomes favourable. “We’re trying to plan but the reality is that Covid-19 is still very rampant. And it’s not a time to be irresponsible and have an event of any sort, because that causes a huge spike in numbers. So I’m just trying to wait and see what is going on in the world before we make any hard and fast plans,” she said.
Anuja Joshi, who now balances her busy acting schedules both in India and USA, was also featured in the list of The Times 50 Most Desirable Women 2020. Reacting to the news, Joshi stated on her Instagram handle that it is a ‘true honour’. She wrote, “Woke up to some fun news!
