With her ambitious plans to make a biopic on the man whom she had partnered for 40 long years, Lajmi hopes to script a story that is as real and enticing as the man himself.
However, this isn’t the first time that news have surfaced about a biopic being made on the life of the celebrated artiste. Lajmi had all been set to put the process in motion long time back. But destiny surely had other plans for the critically acclaimed film persona. Her tryst with cancer left her with virtually little scope of materialising the dream that she had of paying tribute to the love of her life.
Lajmi was just 17 years old when she met the 45 years old Bhupen Hazarika. And in the years that followed, her relationship with Hazarika blossomed and even in the face of ridicule and mockery, she struggled to hold on to this bond that would define Bhupen Da’s personal life in the days to come.

However, Kalpana remained unfazed in her dedication and unwavering love for the man of her life and now, years after his death her dream of the biopic may finally see the light of day.
With ace Bollywood filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and Pooja Bhatt all set to produce the film titled ‘Dhumuha’ (storm in Assamese), the stage seems set for the illustrious project that will reportedly star actor Prosenjit Chatterjee in the lead.
Originally slated to be a trilingual project, the film will be named ‘The Tempest’ in English and ‘Kal Boisakhi’ in Bengali.
The film will obviously depict the riveting love story of Bhupen Hazarika and Lajmi, and the film maker believes that a character as colorful as the one of Hazarika could not have been enacted better than anyone except the versatile Prosenjit. While it is speculated that Pooja Bhatt might just don the role of Kalpana Lajmi in the film.
