As the celebrations seem all set to herald in yet another year, movie buffs around the world wait anticipatedly for 2019 that is set to bring in a horde of rich filmy offerings in its fold. We have compiled the big movies of 2019 that will make you welcome this Happy New Year even more happily!
Uri: The Surgical Strike
2019 will begin with a reality check for Bollywood, when Uri: The Surgical Strike hits screens on 11th January. Based on the true events of the 2016 surgical strike that avenged deadly terrorist attacks by Pakistan, Uri stars Vicky Kaushal, Paresh Rawal and Yami Gautam as leads. Uri has been generating rave reviews ever since its trailer was released on December 5 and is undoubtedly a much awaited movie of 2019.
The fourth film in the comedy franchisee Housefull, Housefull 4 is themed on reincarnation and will release on 25th October, 2019. Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Chunkey Pandey and Bomani Irani reprise their roles while Kriti Sanon, Kirti Kharbanda, Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Rana Daggubati, Sharad Kelkar, Johnny Lever and Pradeep Rawat sum up the cast of the film.
Yet another film with real life connections is Hrithik Roshan starrer Super 30. Roshan plays the protagonist, Patna-based mathematician Anand Kumar, who runs the famed Super 30 program for IIT aspirants in Patna. Super 30 also stars Love Sonia actor Mrunal Thakur and will be releasing on January 25th.
A black comedy drama film Bombairiya follows the story of Meghna, who gets embroiled in a series of events after her phone gets stolen. With a stellar line up in Radhika Apte, Adil Hussain, Ravi Kishan, Shilpa Shukla, Bombairiya releasing on 11th January has been in the pipe line since 2015.
Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga
An Indian romantic comedy film starring Bollywood’s evergreen Anil Kapoor with daughter Sonam Kapoor, Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga tells the story of a Hindu woman in love with a Muslim man, whose life falls apart when she discovers her father’s infidelity with a woman who aspires to be an actress. Rajkumar Rao and Juhi Chawla also play titular roles in the film which will hit theaters on 1st February.
Bollywood’s most popular of entertainers, Govinda returns to the silver screen with Rangeela Raja. Playing dual role in the film that follows the story of two brothers who are poles apart from each other, the comedy- drama-action movie is set to release on 11th January 2019. Rangeela Raja also stars veterans Shakti Kapoor and Prem Chopra, and Digangana Suryavanshi in her second film with Govinda.
Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi
Manikarnika traces the story of Rani Lakshmibai, one of the leading figures of the Indian Rebellion of 1857 and her resistance to the British Raj. With Amitabh Bachchan doing the background narration of the circumstances enacted by Kangana Ranaut as Lakshmibai, Manikarnika would definitely be one of the biggest releases of 2019.
The Accidental Prime Minister
Still another biography movie that is set to hit theaters in 2019 is The Accidental Prime Minister. The film traces the life and journey of former Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh played by Anupam Kher. Akshaye Khanna, Suzanne Bernert, Aahana Kumra, Arjun Mathur and a host of other artistes also star in this mega project that is slated to release on 11th January after a number of postponements.
Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt stars in this 2019 Indian Bollywood musical drama film directed by Zoya Akhtar. A coming of age story based on the lives of Mumbai street rappers, Gully Boy will be releasing on Valentine’s Day 2019 and will also witness telly actress Pooja Gor in another Bollywood film after making her debut with Kedarnath.
Mental Hai Kya
Another of the black comedies to grace Bollywood in 2019, Mental Hai Kya starring Rajkumar Rao and Kangana Ranaut as leads will be your ultimate drive to psycho land. The adult crime thriller co starring Amyra Dastur and Jimmy Sheirgill will hit screens on 16th May.
The biopic trend seems to have caught on to Bollywood like never before and it is here to say. Thackeray is one such biographical movie that chronicles the life account of Shiv Sena Supremo, Balasaheb Thackeray. Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Balasaheb and Amrita Rao as Meena Tai Thackeray are all set to enthrall audiences with the movie that will release on 25th January.
A romantic comedy film with an ensemble cast of Kartik Aryan, Kriti Sanon, Vinay Pathak, Pankaj Tripathi and Aparshakti Khurana, Luka Chuppi
tells the story of a television reporter in Mathura who falls in love with a headstrong woman. The film will release on 1st March 2019.
After delivering a strong performance in the 2016 film Pink, Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu once again comes together for the 2019 film Badla. A remake of the Spanish thriller film Contratiempo, Badla is the story of a lawyer who investigates further into the suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of a young man. Ali Fazal and Shah Rukh Khan also make appearances in the film to release on 8th March.
Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra’s historical drama film Kesari tells the story of Havildar Ishar Singh who participates in the Battle of Saragarhi while yearning for the respect of his estranged daughter. The period war drama film produced by Karan Johar is slated to release on 21st March, 2019.
The biggest multi starrer of 2019, Kalank will witness a bevy of stars from Madhuri Dixit, Sonakshi Sinha, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Kunal Khemmu, Sanjay Dutt and Aditya Roy Kapoor in lead roles. The period drama film is set in the 1940s during the partition of India and was conceived almost 15 years back. Kalank will finally be releasing in 2019 on 18th April.
Student of the Year 2
2012’s blockbuster film Student of the Year will be offering its sequel SOTY2 this May. Starring Tiger Shroff and newcomers Tara Sutaria and Ananya Pandey as the leads, the sequel also has SOTY’s Sana Saeed and will be releasing on 10th May, 2019.
Taanaji – The Unsung Warrior
A historical drama film starring Ajay Devgn, Kajol and Saif Ali Khan, Taanaji – The Unsung Warrior is based on the life of Tanaji Malusare who was the Maharashtrian Koli military leader in the Maratha Empire. The much awaited war film about the Marathi warrior Malusare, who fought the battle of Pratapgad will be releasing on the 22nd of November.
The third installment in the Dhamaal franchisee, Total Dhamaal is supposed to be a laugh riot much like its two prequels. While Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi and Javed Jaffrey will be reprising their roles from the original, Total Dhamaal will also witness the addition of quite a few other stars to its cast. While Ajay Devgan will be playing the lead role, the film will also bring on screen the much loved pairing of Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit. Boman Irani and Esha Gupta will also be seen in the movie that will be releasing on February 22nd in 3D.
The first part in a fantasy trilogy spread over 10 years, Brahmastra starring Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan is one of the biggest releases slated for 2019. Ayan Mukherjee’s directorial venture will be releasing by the end of 2019 on 20th December.
Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar
Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra comes together for another time with Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar, up for release on 1st March. A romantic thriller with doses of black comedy, the film tells the story of a man and woman who represent two completely different Indias and are united in their mistrust, suspicion, and hate for each other.
Saare Jahaan Se Achcha
King Khan Shah Rukh Khan will be starring as Rakesh Sharma in
Saare Jahaan Se Achcha , the biopic on the first ever Indian man to fly into space. Slated to be released year end on December 2019, Saare Jahaan Se Achcha also has Bhumi Pednekar as the female lead.
A remake of the hit Telugu film Arjun Reddy, Kabir Singh sees the eponymous protagonist with anger management issues embarking on a self-destructive path after his ex-lover marries someone else. The film starring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani will release on 21st June.
A Bollywood action-drama with Riteish Deshmukh, Sidharth Malhotra and Tara Sutaria as the leads, Marjaavan will hit the big screens on October 2, 2019.
One among the multitude of Marvel characters, Carol Danvers gets a lease of life of her own in the 2019 film Captain Marvel. Set in 1995, the film follows Danvers, a former U.S. Air Force fighter pilot as she turns into one of the galaxy’s mightiest superheroes. The film chronicles Danvers on her journey at a time when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Brie Larson stars as Danvers in the superhero flick slated to release on March 8.
Isn’t It Romantic
A fantasy comedy film that stars Rebel Wilson, Liam Hemsworth, Adam DeVine, and Priyanka Chopra, Isn’t It Romantic will be the definite Valentine’s Day release to watch out for in 2019. The plot follows a young woman disenchanted with love who mysteriously finds herself trapped inside a romantic comedy, after she got hit on the head.
Marvel’s much loved superhero flick Avengers is all set to churn out its fourth and maybe final offering when Avengers: Endgame releases next year on April 26. Robert Downey Junior, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johanson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Holland, Tom Hiddleston, Benedict Wong and a host of other stars come together as the Avengers force who must do all that is necessary to defeat Josh Brolin’s Thanos and his intention to wipe out the entire Avengers universe.
It: Chapter Two
A sequel to the 2017 horror film It, It: Chapter Two carries on from where the prequel left it off. Based on Stephen King’s 1986 novel It, the second movie in the series depicts events 27 years after the first. Ever since their defeat of the It, the Loser’s Club have broken off, until a devastating phone call brings them back. Set to release on September 6, this is one much awaited release in 2019.
A live action adaptation of Disney’s 1992 animated film also named Aladdin, 2019 will witness the musical romantic fantasy adventure film come to life on screens in May. Mena Massoud plays the title character alongside Will Smith, Naomi Scott, Marwan Kenzari, Navid Negahban, Nasim Pedrad, Billy Magnussen, and Numan Acar in the film based on the Arabic folktale of the same name.
Star Wars: Episode IX
Another of the superhero fantasies that would be seeing its culmination in 2019 is Star Wars: Episode IX. The conclusion of the Star Wars sequel trilogy will see Daisy Ridley, Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac and a host of other stars in action in this film slated for release on December 20.
A mystery crime film starring Daniel Craig, Christopher Plummer, Ana de Armas, Chris Evans, Knives Out is touted to be a modern murder mystery in a classic whodunit style. The film is set for a release on 27th November, 2019.
A biographical drama film based on the real life of Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy, Sye Raa is megastar Chiranjeevi’s much awaited period flick. The screen adaptation of the Telugu hero who revolted against the atrocities of East India Company 10 years before the Sepoy Mutiny, Sye Raa will also witness Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan making a guest appearance.
Co starring Sudeep, Jagapati Babu, Nayanthara, Tamannaah,Vijay Sethupathi, and Brahmaji, Sye Raa is slated for a April 14 release in the coming year.
Baahubali director SS Rajamouli’s big budget film #RRR is slated to be the much awaited action drama film of 2019. A stellar star cast comprising of Ram Charan, N. T. Rama Rao, Prakash Raj et al, the release date of the film is still under wraps. The large scale production of this movie makes it one of the most anticipated Tollywood movies in the new year.
Vinaya Vidheya Rama
A mass entertainer starring Ram Charan and Kiara Advani as the leads with Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi playing the lead antagonist, Vinaya Vidheya Rama is the quintessential romantic action drama that is up for a Sankranthi release on January 11. A special attraction of the movie will be an item song with Bollywood hottie Esha Gupta sizzling amid 800 other dancers.
Come April and heart throb of the South Indian film industry Mahesh Babu will be going all guns out with his upcoming film Maharishi. The action film also stars actress Pooja Hegde in a titular role and will likely witness a box office clash with Sye Raa.
Chronicling the life and the journey of the legendary Telugu actor, filmmaker and ex-Chief Minister Late Taraka Rama Rao Nandamuri and his ascent to success, NTR is scheduled to be a two part biographical movie series. Nandamuri Balakrishna stars as his father, the late Rama Rao while Bollywood actress Vidya Balan stars as Rao’s first wife

While the first film in the installment N.T.R. Kathanayakudu will release on January 9, the sequel N.T.R: Mahanayakudu is slated for a release in February.
South superstar Akhil Akkineni’s next film titled Mr Majnu is also a much anticipated release of 2019. Along with Munna Michael actress Nidhhi Agerwal, Akhil is all set to rock the silver screen when the film releases on January 25th. The romantic comedy will have quite a competitive time at the box office, given that it will be releasing alongside Bollywood Queen Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika.
Another of the Tollywood offerings in 2019 that will bring to life true happenings, Yatra is a film based on Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, who served as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh from 2004 to 2009.
Focussing mainly on Reddy’s padayatra or journey on foot across Andhra Pradesh in 2003, Yatra stars Mammootty, Mahesh Achanta, Rajsekhar Aningi and will release on 8th February.

A comedy drama film starring Tammanah Bhatia, Venkatesh and Prakash Raj, F2 is slated to be a fun cinematic offering, up for release on 12th January, 2019.
Come April and actor Nani will be all set to enthrall cine buffs with his character in Jersey- a young man settled in life with his wife and kid but who aspires to play for the Indian cricket team.Jersey puts into prersceptive Nani as the protagonist’s unabated pursuance of his dreams.
Upcoming May release Dear Comrade would be an action drama that stars
Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna as the leads. A college goer trying to rescue a woman cricketer from the clutches of evil and goading her into following her dreams forms the crux of this movie.
Real life star couple Naga Chaitanya and Samantha will come together for Majili, a romantic drama that will hit screens in mid 2019.
