Jerk..moron…self absorbed creep…an asshole…descriptions mostly oriented towards the male species, why is this gender bias in the use of these words? Is it because men are jerks, morons, self absorbed and almost always assholes…or do we use other words for the females? A female jerk…a girl moron…a beautiful asshole…really does not fit in somewhere…not anywhere actually!!

Philosophy however has placed assholes on a higher level than a slut or a bitch…men may almost always be assholes but being an asshole has a philosophy behind it…yep, you hear it right…there is an “Asshole Theory” in existence. A wide range of papers have been published on this subject and one professor from the University of California went ahead and even wrote a book…yep…you heard it right again….a complete book with several chapters and named it, “Assholes: A theory” by Aaron James!! I cringe even as I read the chapter on “asshole capitalism” where Aaron James states capitalism to be an ideal system where more than several assholes group together to tilt the situation in their favour…look around the world guys…and you see it happening everywhere…scary but true and highly relevant! He even says that assholes aren’t really rapists or creeps but they are somewhere in between the two…he even has a three point description for an asshole…men…get ready to take the test…two checks out of the three below and yes you are indeed an asshole…
a) He allows himself to enjoy special advantages and does so systemically.
b) He does this out of an entrenched sense of entitlement.
c) He is immunized by his sense of entitlement against the complaints of other people.

In simple words, an asshole always thinks that his interest outweighs yours, so his purpose in life, to feel entitled to all and sundry…sometimes even your existence…you are because of me…please adjust your existence and life in terms of mine…sounds familiar girls…yep…it sure does…that asshole you love surely conveys his entitlement to the life which you live or maybe try to make a living. Aaron not only defines an asshole in his book, but also tries to describe what makes one an asshole…he says that assholes are not natural in existence but are culturally created though there are some exceptions of the “genetic assholes!” Can’t help if you have an “asshole gene” in your system!! Otherwise, Aaron James’s theory of an asshole clearly describes culture as the main agent for asshole creation along with the environmental factors in which they survive and thrive like the societal gender norms along with education and the environment of nurture that a particular society adopts towards the upbringing of their children.
Personally I agree that assholes are almost always men but they are almost always created by women who nurture them to become one, entitlements and all….
P.S: One of the many definitions of an asshole in the urban dictionary….”ahhh, yes, asshole. definitely an adjective, used to describe an array of dispositions. it’s hard to generalize assholes, because there are so many types. There’s the stuck-up, superficial “i am better than everyone” asshole; There’s the “i hate the world and everything in it” asshole; there’s the “i’m pretending to be nice to your face, but later i’m going to talk all kinds of shit about you” asshole; goodness….the list goes on and on. In the end, we’re all assholes….some of us are just better at it than others…”
