Indian Cricket Players to Watch in 2021

When it comes to spotting new talent in the Indian cricket world, the IPL (Indian Premier League) is the thing to watch. Every year, the league shows up some unfamiliar names that end up – quite literally – bowling us over and becoming a hot new sporting star.

Here, we will look at three Indian cricket players that you should be keeping a very close eye out for in 2021.

Ravi Bishnoi

Ravi Bisnoi plays for Rajasthan in domestic cricket and Kings X1 Punjab in the Indian Premier League. He comes from humble beginnings – a lack of cricket culture and available facilities in his home region, he and his friends and coaches built their own cricket academy, where they quite literally built it themselves.

He came to Kings XI Punjab as a little bit of a surprise, making his Indian Premier League debut in September 2020. He was able to do some significant damage to the batting line-up of the opposition team.  Being able to use those skitters and his over-pitched flight deliveries has meant that Bishnoi is certainly one to keep an eye on in the Indian Premier League. With players such as Kuldeep struggling to stay on form in recent times, Bishnoi is a real contender to top ranks of Indian cricket. Last season he was able to claim 12 wickets out of the 14 games that he played on, making the Indian Premier League a platform for the young cricket player to shine from.

Kamlesh Nagarkoti

Kamlesh Nagarkoti is one of the fastest bowlers on the Indian domestic cricket circuit and is also up there as being one of the best fieldsmen about at the moment too. Rahul Dravid, who let’s face it, knows his stuff about cricket, lends his support to Nagarkoti, referring to him as ‘one of the best fielders’.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) lined up in Kamlesh Nagarkoti in the Indian Premier League in 2018. Unfortunately he was not able to play the season and the subsequent one due to significant injuries. The 20-year-old was part of India’s under-19 World Cup squad in 2018, where he picked up nine wickets out of six games. He was also able to pick up two wickets in the final, in which the team won. It is hoped that he will now be able to play the full season.

Ishan Kishan

In this season of the Indian Premier League, Ishan Kishan was a truly formidable batsman. He got through the opposition bowlers at remarkable speed and his performance was nothing short of marvellous. It was not just fluke either – the batting was pure talent and skill, combined with flair and creativity. Ishan Kishan managed to obtaina fantastic 516 runs, averaging a superb 57, and a strike rate of 145. With Rishabh Pant not at his best thanks to his inconsistency of late, Ishan is a very strong contender for making a debut this year.

It is not just these three that you need to watch out for in 2021 in Indian cricket – there is a whole wealth of up-and-coming players in the European t10 league and IPL that are really standing out and proving to change the face of Indian cricket – keep your eyes peeled! What are your players to watch out for?
