Public buses are one of the most preferred means of commuting in India. According to reports, over 1.6 million buses are registered in the country and the public bus sector operates 170,000 buses carrying around 70 million people per day.
Although buses are considered to be the most convenient modes of transportation for most of the middle class families of India, it is also one of the place which sometimes turns out to be a venue of ridiculous sights and at other times the incidents happening in it makes us go LOL.
Some of the weird things which I have witnessed in a public bus are-
SPITTING STUPIDLY OUT OF THE WINDOW
It is quite ridiculous when people lean out of the window of a travelling bus and spit outside in such a way that his /her saliva gets ejected directly in front of a person walking by the side of the bus.
SLEEPING AND SNORING
While travelling in a bus , some people goes in such a blissful sleep that he/she starts snoring and it becomes irritating if the person is sitting nearby. When the snoring becomes louder, it becomes too intolerable and then it feels that a person has to be told to stop the snoring otherwise the bus journey cannot be peaceful.
MAKING THE BUS A DUMPING GROUND
When a person throws a packet of chips or a chocolate paper in the bus after consumption and makes it dirty, it not only feels irritating but also shows the kind of character of that person. However, the sight of people throwing food waste and other kinds of rubbish they might have inside the bus has become very common and it is really sad that after years of launch of Swachh Bharat Mission, people are finding it difficult to keep even the public vehicles clean.
STICKING CHEWING GUM IN INAPPROPRIATE PLACES
Sometimes people stick chewing gum in inappropriate places in buses like in the seats or in the window glasses. If mistakenly someone seats in a seat where a chewing gum is stuck and if it happens that the time when he/she gets up from the seat with the chewing gum still stuck in his/her garment, then he/she becomes a laughing stock and the centre of gossip in the bus.
FIGHTING OVER PERSONAL ISSUES IN THE BUS
When people starts arguing over personal issues in the bus, they grab the limelight with every eye constantly staring at them. However, during occasions when arguments can get out of hand and the persons who are arguing raise hands on each other, it becomes very disturbing with some person trying to cool them down and sometimes the conductor even asks them to step out of the bus midway. However, when the argument cools down , the arguers are still given sideways glances by the passengers in the bus till they finally get off at their destination. Once they get down, the topic of their argument becomes the hot topic of gossip in the bus with the other passengers.
FIGHTING WITH THE CONDUCTOR OVER BUS FARES
When a passenger and the conductor of a bus disagree over bus fares, the debate of the accurate amount of fare between them sometimes becomes so competitive that even other passengers and the bus driver eagerly participates in the debate and the bus then becomes a centre of hullabaloo.
THE OWNER OF THE BUS SEAT
While sitting in a bus, some people seat with their legs spread so wide open that it becomes uncomfortable for a co-passenger to seat peacefully without getting angry and then “the owner of the bus seat” has to be told off which sometimes turns into a heated argument.
NUMBER OF BAGS GREATER THAN THE PASSENGER
It becomes quite funny to see a single person carrying more than three bags in a bus and then starts working with their brains furiously the way to organize the bags so that he/she can sit comfortably in his/her seat without having to keep standing for the whole bus journey. Also, the person who sits with a large number of bags heaped one above the other near him/her gets the maximum number of stares.
CONTINUOUS STARES ARE VERY UNCOMFORTABLE
When a person continuously keeps staring , it gets too irritating and sometimes it feels like that the starer deserves a good beating.
FORGETTING THE DESTINATION WHEN OFF TO A GOOD SLEEP
Now this incident is not only funny but also alarming. Some people goes on sleeping till they have crossed the place they are required to step down from the bus and the reaction they give when they realize it the moment they wake up is quite entertaining and funny to watch. Maybe, it must have happened in your lives as well.
I have also experienced it once. Believe me guys, the other passengers travelling in the bus might have found it funny but I almost seem to have lost my sanity and could not decide what to do. As this incident happened during a 3 hour long drive, I did get down at a bus stop and as there weren’t any other means of public transport, I had to wait for two hours at that stop till a new bus came by. I cannot forget that incident in my life. It did not only raise my level of nervousness but also led me to shell out the money which I had kept as extra. However, this incident did teach me one lesson. It is very important to stay awake during travelling and travel with extra money in the bag while travelling because we can’t have any idea about the situations that we might have to face during difficult times.
No matter how many number of weird incidents happens in public buses, they are the cheapest modes of transport and one of the best places of observing different types of human behavior.
