Yashaswini Dayama Biography

Born to renowned film and television personality Rammakant Dayama and Asha Dayama, Yashaswini Dayama was born and brought up in Mumbai. With her initial schooling in her hometown, Yashaswini set out to complete her graduation in mass media from the prestigious St. Xavier’s Institute.

A shy person throughout her life, acting was never a conscious decision for Yashaswini. Though she had been inclined towards the creative arts from a young age, her foray into the professional realm of performing arts was neither a decision influenced by genetics nor a compulsion. She ventured into the world of acting out of sheer passion and will.

Yashaswini Dayama Career

In the beginning, Yashaswini started out by featuring in ad campaigns and commercials for a number of big brands. She has been associated with brands like Airtel 4G, Hike, Micromax. Also starring alongside Diljit Dosanjh stuck in an elevator in Coca Cola’s summer film, Miss Dayama has been striking in her every appearance.

Her break through into Bollywood however came with Phobia in 2016, alongside Radhika Apte and Satyadeep Mishra. Yashaswini played the role of Apte’s carefree and young neighbour and her natural portrayal of Nikki earned her praise.

Thereafter, she landed up the role of Alia Bhatt’s bestie in Dear Zindagi (2016). As Jackie, the cute, little drunk friend and a very essential support system to Alia’s character Kaira, Yashaswini amazed us all with her pretty spontaneous act.

She was also seen in a 2017 short film ‘Ruhaan- The story of a lost boy’ under Lekh Haq Films, and has also starred in another web venture, a YouTube sketch series titled Closeted Comic.

In 2018, Dayama struck a chord with young audiences when she starred in Dice Media’s web series, Adulting along with Aisha Ahmed. A take on the problems faced by two young girls as they embark on their adulting journey, the first season of the series has been a success and as Ray, Yashaswini really sets the ball rolling with her spot on enactions and quirkiness.

This year, Dayama is already making it big with her two recently released web series. Amazon Prime Video’s Made in Heaven and Netflix original Delhi Crime sees the budding talent as school girls. But while the theme of the characters might apparently appear to be similar on paper, the interlying interpretations are radically diversified.

Dayama plays a teenaged student Mitali Gupta in Made In Heaven. Striking a friendship with her tenant Karan who she fights for against her parents for their homophobic views on him, Mitali is very much an ordinary girl.

Yashaswini again plays a teenager in Delhi Crime. But the 15 year old Chandni shows much more maturity than any of Dayama’s previous characters. Or for that matter, even for any 15 year old.

Dayama is portraying a school girl yet again in acclaimed screenwriter Megha Ramaswamy’s mini-series The Odds. Premiering at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles, The Odds has a rather interesting theme. Two students strike up a friendship as they bunk classes and go on a whimsical adventure through the Mumbai streets.

While Yashaswini does not have particularly meaty roles in any of her latest releases, her growth as an actor has been significant in all of her works. Both in Delhi Crime which was helmed by Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti and Made in Heaven, the series by award winning film maker Richie Mehta, Dayama has been working with some of the most efficient names in the industry.

Yashaswini Dayama will also be reprising her character in Adulting 2 while she is very open to do all kinds of roles.
