It’s not often that you would come across a business venture expanding its wings in one of the fastest growing economies of the world without mere expectations of higher numbers. So when you really encounter some brand with a mindset that itself sets it apart from the rest, you know you are in for some ‘adventure’.
Leica, in particular, is a name that evokes an image of stunning photographic delight and grandeur. With over a century of experience in exploring the wonder realm of photography through its wonder cameras, Leica is undoubtedly a name that spells not just a marvel in the world of visual presentation but also is treasured because of the sheer opulence it generates.
Leica produces by far the most expensive cameras in the world. And this extravagance comes not merely from a brand that knows how to go about its business. It is also the brand’s expertise in all fields of the trade it so efficiently covers that lends this distinctive appeal to it.
LEICA IN INDIA
And now with the European giant setting its foot in India there is hope for some serious photography exploits emerging in a country that already has a huge reserve of budding photographers. With its first pan India store set up at Connaught Place in Delhi, Leica aims to concentrate more on the art of photography than on the business of numbers.
Sunil Kaul, the Asia- Pacific Managing Director of the brand, while reiterating Leica’s commitment to enhancing the pursuit of photography in India, refuses to sell its revolutionary gadgets to those who pursue a camera for the mere price of it.
Kaul rues that photography in India is merely a medium of capturing wedding moments for eternity, or simply a ‘marketing’ tool to garner all the likes and appreciation. And the iconic brand that it really is, Leica obviously holds a lot more potential and that is sought to be translated in the booming Indian market, sans any publicity and advertisement.
THE QUEST OF TRUE PHOTOGRAPHY
Leica is adventurous in that it gauges potential customers on their willingness or otherwise to purchase a camera for the right purpose. Professional as it is, the store has specifically trained team members to pose open ended questions to get to know the real desire of the customer behind the big purchase.
Besides a host of high end products, the exclusive store also exhibits certain shots that have been Leica outputs. Also, there have been plans for a Leica Academy which has different avenues to explore for both beginners and professional photographers.
While Leica surely aims at expanding its line in the country in the coming years, Kaul reiterates that they will not resort to doing business just for the sake of it. But as of now the brand is happy concentrating on its newly discovered ‘destination’ and aims solely on enhancing photography as a serious art form in India.
With a motive and an aim as focussed as the one the brand endorses, its no wonder that Leica remains the world leader in photography for more than a century now. Passion and profession manifested to the core. That’s Leica for you!
