But while in India, followers of the cult leader of the masses engaged in a heartening display of love and respect for the revered leader, the scenario was different in the monk’s birthplace in China, with authorities putting specific restrictions in place to discourage celebrations of the occasion.
Chinese authorities have always clamped down upon freedom of expression specially during the birthday week, but this time it is speculated that even more constraints have been imposed, with even arrests made in early June of two persons who were found in possession of the monk’s pictures.
The move had obviously sparked outrage among the native Tibetans, but even then authorities have not budged from their anti- Dalai Lama stance.
