One of the most celebrated sci-fi franchises in the mainstream, Matrix is to return with its fourth sequel. Director Lana Wachowski and her sister Lilly is set to write and direct the fourth instalment of the matrix universe bringing back the original casts Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss as Neo and Trinity.
Announcing the fourth instalment to the franchise Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich stated,
We could not be more excited to be re-entering The Matrix with Lana. Lana is a true visionary — a singular and original creative filmmaker — and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in The Matrix universe.
Notably, this year delineates the 20th anniversary of the original The Matrix movie which was released in1999.
In a recent statement, director Wachowski said,
Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends
Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell are to write the script of the film along with the director Wachowski. Wachowski is also producing the fourth installment with Grant Hill.
As per the speculation, the production of the film is going to begin in 2020.
The Matrix was a remarkable hit which redefined the genre of science fiction. It made more than $460m worldwide. Combing the two sequels, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions the whole franchise has made more than $1.6bn.
It is definitely a grand news for the fans of the Matrix universe. Keanu Reeves is ruling the box office with the recent release of his film John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum which made more than $320m worldwide.
