Assam son Debajit Changmai has been invited as a member by the prestigious Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences for 2018.

The Mumbai based sound designer features among the list of twenty film personalities from India to have got the invitation.

Hailing from Sibsagar in Assam, Debajit Changmai passed out from Jyoti Chitraban Film and Television Institute, and has to his credit many blockbusters like Don 2, Jodha Akbar, Dangal, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and many more. He is a National award winner Audiographer, Sound Engineer, Re-recording Mixer, (Bahubali2, Dangal, Bajrangi Bhaijaan fame).

This would be Assam’s second representation at the grand award spectacle, with fellow sound designer Amrit Pritam already a member of the Oscar society.

Pritam took to Facebook to congratulate Changmai, alongside Bishwadeep Chatterjee, who has also received the invitation.

Incidentally, Debajit Changmai had won the Best Sound Mixing award at the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards 2014 for sound mixing of the Hindi-Urdu film “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag” (2013) and this time around also, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag features as one of his works pertaining to the Oscars invitation.

Apart from Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Raazi and Court also earned him the nomination.

Changmai had earlier won the Best Sound Mixing award 2013 for the Hindi-Urdu film Barfi! (2012)

Bolly film Ishiqya fetched Changmai the 58th National Film Award for Best Audiography in 2010, courtesy the designer’s re recording of the final mixed track.

The 2013 film The Reluctant Fundamentalist also had Changmai as the re- recording sound mixer.

The latest invitation  from the Academy will obviously be a dream come true for the illustrious designer and is obviously a big leap forward for the man who had been on a sleeper class train when he started his journey towards the city of dreams.

We sure are proud of this talented artist and hope that he carries Assam and India further into the global scene with his sound mixing prowess.
