Not even a fortnight in to the 2018 World Cup and things are already turning out to be gloomy for Argentina.
Notwithstanding Argentine star Lionel Messi’s penalty miss in the 1-1 draw with Iceland, fans were still expectant of their icon delivering when it would be needed the most.
Not necessarily, though. In Thursday’s disastrous rout, Messi got only one shot and could not convert even that.
Croatia pulled off a big upset with its 3-0 win over its rivals, even with former great Diego Maradona watching from the stands.
And despite Messi’s stunning exploits with Barcelona, the star player has not been able to do much when it comes to the national team.
Football fans are essentially disappointed with the five time Player of the Year awardee’s performance, given speculations that this might as well be his last World Cup.
And the emotions were evident on social media, with multiple tweets both slamming and supporting the star.
Messi is no goat. Perhaps, he’s a sheep. But definitely not THE GOAT. pic.twitter.com/SQM1yK7qTx

Argentina/Barca fans: “Messi can’t do everything by himself”

The anti-Messi clan in full swing. One of the realities of an extremely successful career is that any failings or shortcomings are amplified to high heavens.

Notwithstanding all sympathies though, Argentina seriously need to buck up their game if they really want to keep the 2018 World Cup withing achievable range.
And surely, it’s not only about Messi.
