Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav has been sentenced to three months in prison for failing to repay a debt of Rs 5 crore.
Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw of the Delhi High Court ordered on Friday that Yadav be taken into custody for his inability to pay back the loan which he had taken in 2010 to fund his directorial debut film Ata Pata Laapata.
Yadav will now be kept in the Tihar Jail after the court passed the judgement against Yadav’s Delhi-based company company Shree Naurang Godavari Entertainment after the Delhi based company Murli Projects had filed a civil case against the actor.
The film released in 2012 but was a flop and hence failed to recover the production cost. Yadav could not repay the loan as a result of which the actor and his wife have been convicted of the same. The actor however refuted all the charges levelled against him of having to repay the amount of Rs 11,10, 60,350 .
