Skipper Mithali Raj showed resilience and class as she led India to a superb victory over arch rivals Pakistan in a group B match of the ongoing ICC T-20 Women’s World Cup.
A seven wicket victory over Pakistan had India blazing in full glory as they chased down a target of 134 comfortably. With an over to spare in the victory that ensured that India take a big step forward in making it to the semi- finals of the tournament, the Indian captain struck seven fours to see her team home after the bowlers had done a decent job to restrict Pakistan to a par total.
However, India already had the upper hand right from the start of their run- chase with 10 runs already finding way into the scoreboard. Pakistani batswomen running on the danger area of the pitch during their innings earned them five- run penalties twice which ultimately proved a boon for India.
India had Pakistan firmly under control when at 3 down for 30 in the seventh over, the Indian team’s decision of fielding after winning the toss seemed to pay dividends. Pakistan however managed to crawl back in the game and subsequently wrapped up their innings with a decent total on board.
